Model of the year Cara Delevingne

'It's like one of those Zoolander moments': Model of the year Cara Delevingne says she never thought her British Fashion Awards moment would come

She's been in demand with fashion houses, designers and High Street brands so it came as no surprise when Cara Delevingne was named Model of the Year at this week's British Fashion Awards - except to the star herself.
The model of the moment said she was 'speechless' when she heard she had won the accolade during the star-studded ceremony at London's Savoy hotel - and thought she had misheard her name being called.
'It's completely mad. It's only just starting to sink in. When they say your name, it's like one of those Zoolander moments when you think they've said the wrong name. It's out of this world. I never thought it would happen,' she told Grazia Daily, comparing her experience to the comedy film starring Ben Stiller.

The BFA said that Cara won in recognition of her contribution to the international fashion scene over the past year.

'Cara’s unique sense of style and flair in front of the camera has made her one of the most prominent names in fashion, walking in an impressive 31 shows in September after being described as the star face of autumn/winter 13 by British Vogue,' they said.

The 20-year-old became well-known on the fashion scene last year when she became the face of Burberry and she aptly chose one of their dresses to wear to last night's event.
Since then she has walked the runway for Oscar de la Renta, Fendi and Stella McCartney, posed as the face of Chanel and featured in campaigns for High Street brands like H&M and Zara.

But the model said the highlight for her was becoming a Victoria's Secret Angel when she took part in one of the lingerie brand's shows earlier this year.

'Doing Victoria's Secret was pretty special,' she said. 'The fact that I was even asked to do it was completely insane.'
Cara's signature style is her full eyebrows but the model told Grazia she has no secret beauty trick for anyone looking to replicate her look.
'I just let them be. I don't try and tame them, the wild beasts that they are,' she joked.

Cara has also won numerous fans thanks to her bubbly personality and ability not too take herself too seriously. She regularly posts pictures of herself in funny poses on Twitter while at an auction of designer styled Pudsey Bears for Children In Need earlier this month, she attended dressed up as a bear herself.

The model also has a host of celeb friends who were quick to congratulate her on her award win.

Rita Ora wrote: 'Congratulations to my baby @Caradelevingne for winning supermodel of the year last night! Coz u baaaaaad! Lov u'.
