Seemingly ageless: Actress Helen Mirren showed off her
smooth complexion and graceful figure - but her left hand revealed her
age
In a striking scarlet gown, the ever-elegant Dame Helen Mirren makes yet another appearance on the red carpet.
The seemingly ageless actress showed off her smooth complexion and graceful figure as she posed for the cameras.
But as every woman knows, there are some things that will always betray a lady’s age.
And in the case of the 67-year-old Oscar-winner, it was her hands.
Bearing the inevitable wrinkles and brown spots of age, they provided a startling contrast to her otherwise polished appearance.
She was photographed as she arrived at the Palm Springs Film Festival in California wearing a crimson Escada gown and posing alongside her husband, American film director Taylor Hackford.
Two days after she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Dame Helen collected another accolade, this time the International Star Award.
Dame Helen is currently being hailed for her performance in the biographical film Hitchcock, in which Sir Anthony Hopkins plays the British movie director Alfred Hitchcock and she portrays his wife Alma.
The role has already won her critical acclaim as well as nominations for the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.
She described her character as the director’s ‘artistic and domestic rock’. She added: ‘People say there were four hands on Hitchcock’s movies and two of them were Alma’s.’
Dame Helen won the best actress Oscar for the title role in The Queen in 2006 and will play the monarch again from next month in West End play The Audience.

I dreamed a dream: Les Misérables director Tom Hooper
presented the age-defying acting icon with the statuette at the awards gala
'Actually we appreciate the lack of romance in the other person. I’d be completely horrified if Taylor gave me a Valentine’s card! That’s not our sort of relationship at all – we would pour cold water on that sort of thing,' Dame Helen revealed.
'We even forget to get each other birthday presents – I’m always thinking the day before, "Oh, I must get Taylor something for his birthday." Without being corny, we try simply to be considerate to each other every day rather than lavishing each other with gifts.'
The festival runs from January 3-14 and Saturday night's awards gala, emceed by Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart, honored several potential Academy Award contenders.
